Implementation and Analysis of LoRaWAN Technology for Remote Water Meter Reading in Urban Areas
Monitoring and managing water consumption effectively is crucial for optimizing water supply and reducing losses in urban environments. This paper presents the implementation and analysis of a pilot project for remote water meter reading using the LoRaWAN technology. Commissioned by the company Vodoopskrba i odvodnja d.o.o. (ViO) and conducted by IKOM d.d., the project evaluates the technical feasibility of this technology in urban areas and compares it with the benchmark NB-IoT technology. Results indicate that the LoRaWAN technology shows satisfactory performance in challenging environments and is a viable solution for remote water consumption monitoring, especially when remote reading operator has its own LoRaWAN network.
