Bidirectional DC-DC Converter Topologies for Full Voltage Range EV Charging

A high efficiency over the wide output voltage range of EV chargers is the key to enable cost effective charging for electric vehicles with different battery voltages. Bidirectional grid-tied EV chargers can contribute to the stabilization of future grids with an increasing share of decentralised producers. In this work, three different isolated, bidirectional DC-DC converter topologies for an output-voltage range of 200 to 920 V are compared.

Abstract

A high efficiency over the wide output voltage range of EV chargers is the key to enable cost effective charging for electric vehicles with different battery voltages. Bidirectional grid-tied EV chargers can contribute to the stabilization of future grids with an increasing share of decentralised producers. In this work, three different isolated, bidirectional DC-DC converter topologies for an output-voltage range of 200 to 920 V are compared.
