Enhancing Electrical Grid Stability through Grid-Forming for DFIG-Based Wind Turbines

This paper examines the integration of Grid-Forming (GFM) topologies in Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) to address grid stability challenges due to the increasing use of renewable energy sources. As renewable sources lack the inertia traditionally provided by Synchronous Generators (SGs), grid stability becomes a concern. Focusing on the unique challenges of applying GFM topologies to DFIGs, this study proposes a novel internal structure to control DFIG terminal voltage to enhance grid stability. By analyzing existing GFM strategies and introducing an optimized control approach, this work contributes to developing standardized DFIG control strategies, offering a promising solution to mitigate inertia loss and improve electrical grid resilience amidst the transition to sustainable energy sources.
