Comparison of Energy Management Strategies for an e-Racing Vehicle with Hybrid Energy Storage
This paper presents three solutions for the eighth edition of the IEEE VTS Motor Vehicles Challenge, which focuses on designing an energy management system for a hybrid energy storage system consisting of a supercapacitor pack and a Li-Ion battery pack arrangement in an electric vehicle. The challenge requires participants to distribute power between the battery pack and the supercapacitor while adhering to technical constraints and minimizing the power electronics converters size, energy consumption, and losses. Three different energy management strategies were implemented and compared using the final driving cycle of the challenge, and the results showed the effectiveness of the proposed solutions in terms of the cost function components.
