Comparison of Different Core Geometries for the Reduction of Components of a Filter for Power Converter Applications

This paper compares a number of different chokes in terms of the ratio between Common-Mode (CM) and Differential-Mode (DM) inductance. With the triangular geometry shape, this ratio could be improved by splitting the windings. This allowed to produce a filter with significantly fewer components. This filter was compared with a standard filter and shows a significantly better filter effect at higher frequencies.

Abstract

This paper compares a number of different chokes in terms of the ratio between Common-Mode (CM) and Differential-Mode (DM) inductance. With the triangular geometry shape, this ratio could be improved by splitting the windings. This allowed to produce a filter with significantly fewer components. This filter was compared with a standard filter and shows a significantly better filter effect at higher frequencies.
