Evaluating The Role of Natural Products as Storage Medium for Avulsed Teeth: A Systematic Literature Review
This systematic literature review assesses the significance of natural products in preserving avulsed teeth, focusing on cell viability, availability, efficacy, and long-term storage capacity.Tooth avulsion, a severe dental trauma, necessitates rapid and effective storage strategies to keep periodontal ligament (PDL) cells alive till replantation.Traditional storage media, such as Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) and milk, have been widely employed, although their availability and efficacy may be limited. This review evaluates various natural products phytochemical characteristics, antibacterial activity, and anti-inflammatory potential as storage media. The results suggest that numerous natural items have promising potential for preserving PDL cell viability, with some functioning on par with or better than standard medium. The analysis focuses on major trends, emerging research areas, and practical implications for dental trauma management.Despite the positive results, the review highlights limits and gaps in current research, emphasizing the importance of additional in vitro and in vivo investigations to establish the clinical applicability of these natural compounds.By filling these gaps, future research can improve the utilization of natural items as storage media for avulsed teeth, potentially changing present dental trauma care methods.
