Design of Antennas Using Additive Technology with Surface Metallization

This article aims to study the fabrication of hybrid parts combining a low-loss dielectric printed structure with the metallization of certain parts of the piece. Two antenna geometries are examined to evaluate the potential performance and limitations associated with the conductivity of the deposited metal. A patch-type structure shows degradation of less than 0.4 dB in its efficiency for conductivity 100 times lower than copper.

Abstract

This article aims to study the fabrication of hybrid parts combining a low-loss dielectric printed structure with the metallization of certain parts of the piece. Two antenna geometries are examined to evaluate the potential performance and limitations associated with the conductivity of the deposited metal. A patch-type structure shows degradation of less than 0.4 dB in its efficiency for conductivity 100 times lower than copper.
