Reflection through revisiting: returning to celebrating creativity collaboratively

This paper reflects on two research projects undertaken a decade apart. The first, Celebrating creativity collaboratively (CCC) undertaken in 2009-10 (see Fitzgerald & Smith, 2012), explored how a collaborative approach could inspire student teachers of English to become competent, confident teachers of creative writing. The second, Celebrating creativity collaboratively II (CCCII), undertaken in 2018-19, was a ‘revisit’ of the original. The comparative findings will be reported elsewhere: the focus of this paper is on reflective practice and on revisiting as a research method. I argue that revisiting – which involves consideration of the similarities and differences between the external and internal contexts of both the original and revisited research – offers opportunities for fresh insights and understandings, not only on the areas of research but the researchers themselves. My focus on revisiting a project and a question is novel; further research on revisiting as method and use of revisiting is recommended.
