Project Life Cycle and Performance of Banana Xanthomonas Wilt Project in Rwanda

Purpose: The study, titled "Investigating the Impact of Different Project Phases on the Overall Performance of Agriculture Projects in Rwanda," aims to analyze how distinct phases of project management influence the performance of agriculture projects. Specifically, it focuses on the ICT4BXW Project at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) to assess how various project phases, technology integration, and monitoring mechanisms affects the control of Banana Xanthomonas Wilt and overall project efficiency. Materials and Methods: A mixed-methods approach was adopted, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative research designs. A sample of 184 participants was selected using Taro Yamane’s formula. Data were gathered through surveys and interviews, with qualitative data analyzed thematically, while quantitative data were processed using SPSS for statistical insights. This methodology facilitated a comprehensive assessment of project phases and their influence on agriculture project performance. Findings: The findings indicate that all project phases were executed effectively, reflected in high agreement rates and mean scores above 4.0, displaying robust project planning, implementation, and evaluation. The integration of technology and ICT tools significantly enhanced project efficiency and data security, as evidenced by high mean scores and positive feedback from participants. Furthermore, monitoring mechanisms, such as surveillance systems, proved effective in controlling Banana Xanthomonas Wilt. Regression and correlation analyses underscored the positive impact of technology integration and monitoring practices on project performance. Conclusion: The study concludes that managing project phases effectively, coupled with technology integration and diligent monitoring, plays a crucial role in the success of agriculture projects. These findings highlight the importance of structured project life cycle management in enhancing agricultural project outcomes in Rwanda.
