Development and validation of an intelligent remote heating system for heating magnetic stirrers in chemistry laboratories

The heating magnetic stirrer has always been an indispensable experimental instrument in chemical laboratories, with a high daily demand. However, current heating magnetic stirrers still rely on traditional hardware technology, only capable of operating in local mode, and lack the ability for remote temperature adjustment by users, resulting in low efficiency. This study proposes an innovative design that integrates the heating magnetic stirrer with remote IoT control, aiming to enhance laboratory safety and efficiency through the integration of IoT and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) technology. The key component Arduino Nano board acquires sensor temperature and system operating status and collaborates with a wireless communication-enabled sensor system. The acquired data is transmitted through the ESP8266- 01 module to the Blinker cloud platform for storage and display, enabling users to monitor system status and adjust set temperatures via a mobile application. Additionally, we have incorporated fault display functionality into the WeChat mobile service. Through comprehensive comparison, our design ensures the safety of chemical experiments and enhances the efficiency of the heating magnetic stirrer.
