Innovative Non-Isolated DC-DC Converter Design with High Gain and Reduced Switch Voltage Stress for DC Microgrid Applications

DC microgrids have become increasingly significant due to the effective integration of renewable energy sources such as fuel cells and photovoltaics (PV) through power electronic interfaces. This integration allows for a more sustainable and efficient energy system by harnessing the potential of renewable sources. However, one of the critical challenges in this process is the lower voltage levels at which these renewable energy sources operate. To address this issue, DC-DC converters play a crucial role. These converters are essential for stepping up or down the voltage levels to match the requirements of the DC microgrid, ensuring seamless and efficient connectivity. As a result, the deployment of DC-DC converters not only facilitates the incorporation of renewable energy into the grid but also enhances the overall stability and performance of the DC micro-grid system. This paper presents an innovative dual-switch, ultra-high gain, non-isolated DC-DC converter with low voltage stress. By combining a modified switched inductor (SI) and a switched capacitor (SC) and replacing the diode in the SI cell with an additional switch, the converter achieves significant voltage gain and reduces voltage stress on active switches to less than 25% of the output voltage. Experimental results from a 380V, 200W prototype show a full-load efficiency of 95.79% and excellent component utilization.
