How AR in Learning Media Over Two Decades: Trend Analysis and Mapping for Future Prospects

Augmented reality (AR) is a technology that combines virtual objects with real objects. This technology is used as a learning tool so that students better understand the material provided. This research aims to review the global landscape map and develop trends in AR research related to learning media. This research examines the evolution of augmented reality in learning media through bibliometric analysis. Seven hundred papers relating exclusively to the augmented reality domain, ranging from 1995 to 2023, were collected from the Scopus database. Researchers use bibliometric analysis to determine thematic evolution, research trends, and the important role of augmented reality in learning media. The research results show an increasing trend of AR research in learning media. Indonesia, State University of Malang, and Permanasari, A.E. is the most productive country, research institution, and researcher regarding AR in learning media. This study suggests a conceptual framework for organizing AR publications in learning media to consolidate the knowledge accumulated over the last two decades. This research proposes the conceptualization of AR publications in learning media to organize global knowledge accumulated in the previous two decades in applications, learning systems, learning media, e-learning, learning management, education, and product design resources, abbreviated as the ALLELEP research theme.
