Design of Portable E-Voting Framework using Narrowband Internet of Things –Preliminary Considerations

Voter participation is a critical issue in elections as it reflects how many citizens engage actively in the democratic process. Low levels of voter turnout present challenges in realizing true democratic governance. Replacing traditional paper-based methods, e-voting is often touted as a solution to increase voter participation. This paper proposes a portable e-voting system that can be operated ubiquitously, with each e-voting machine covering a wide electoral area. The system utilizes Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) modules, a new cellular technology for Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) applications, to transmit data from the voting machine. Key components such as basic voter information, counting servers, and storage servers are implemented on cloud servers. This framework aims to enhance accessibility and ensure the security and continuity of the electoral process.
