An End-to-End Decentralized Organ Donation and Transplantation System Using Blockchain

Organ donation allows the patient to have a life enhancing opportunity with a higher quality of life. This article addresses the existing limitations and challenges of current centralized organ donation system by introducing the concept of a decentralized system for organ donation and transplantation using Blockchain Technology. We propose an end-to-end organ donation and transplantation system developed using Hardhat, ReactJS and Metamask. The proposed system ensures a secure and transparent storage of donor and recipient data which can only be altered by authorized entities. Further, the end-to-end system was hosted on Interplanetary File System (IPFS) to enable persistent availability of organ data. We also assess function calls present in various smart contracts of the developed system in terms of computation cost. Deployment of smart contract, and development of decentralised application with both front-end and back-end are the most appealing features of the proposed mechanism which supersedes the existing state-of-the-arts.
