Experimental Approaches on Properties Characterization of Magneto-Dielectric Material Using SIW Structure
This paper discusses experimental approaches on properties characterization of magneto-dielectric (MD) material using Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) structure. The characterized MD material takes a cylindrical shape of Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG), while the properties to be characterized is focused on the material permittivity. Two SIW structures are designed and fabricated for the properties characterization, namely SIW structure with host material using FR-4 Epoxy substrate and without host material or air-host SIW structure. In the middle of SIW structure with host, a cylindrical hole with the diameter of 18.1 mm and the height of 4.8 mm is provided for placing MD material to be characterized. Based on experimental characterization, the SIW structure with host has a TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">10</inf> mode cut-off frequency of 2.05 GHz, while a TE<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">10</inf> mode cut-off frequency for the air-host SIW structure is 3.85 GHz. In addition, the result of properties characterization achieves an accuracy of 96.99%.
