Examining Food Literacy and Anti-Food Waste Behaviour to Support Food Smart City Initiative: Household Routine as a Mediator

Food waste in Indonesia is quite alarming. Food waste occurs from the production stage to the consumer, and the consumers have the highest food waste output. There is a need to increase awareness about anti-food waste behavior and food literacy. The source of waste is mainly from households, indicating that food smart city initiatives can involve household participation in achieving sustainable cities. The household can gain better access to smart food services but needs improvement in perceptional and behavioral changes. This research aims to find the relationship between food literacy, household routine, and ant-food waste behavior as part of perceptional and behavioral changes to support the food smart city initiative in the Banyumas Regency. The method used was quantitative, and a survey was carried out on 409 respondents. The analysis uses SEM-PLS (Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Square) with Smart PLS 3 software. The result showed significant positive results in food literacy, household routine, and anti-food waste behavior in the food smart city initiative. A technological approach is needed, as well as influencing habits that start in the household. Food literacy and household routine are the main variables in developing anti-food waste behavior in food smart city initiatives. Further research can be conducted to find the technological model suitable for creating a food-smart city agenda.
