Design and Realization of Axial-Mode Bifilar Helix-Conical Antenna for ISM Band Wireless Communications
In this paper, the design and realization of an axial-mode bifilar helix-conical antenna is proposed for 2.4 GHz ISM bands wireless communications. The proposed bifilar helix-conical antenna is made by two copper conductor wires with the diameter of 0.5 mm and fed by a 50–Ω SubMiniature version A (SMA) connector through a microstrip line deployed on a Flame Retardant (FR) 4 Epoxy dielectric substrate. The copper conductor wires are turning twice for attaining axial-mode of radiation pattern and yielding a conical shape by varying the diameter with a certain radius change. The design of bifilar helix-conical antenna is optimized and characterized to attain an optimum configuration. Some basic parameters such as resonant frequency, bandwidth response, and radiation pattern are used to evaluate the radiation characteristics of proposed antenna. The characterization result shows that the proposed bifilar helix-conical antenna can work at the operating frequency of 2.4 GHz with the bandwidth response of 200 MHz and the axial-mode of radiation pattern.
