Postdural Puncture Headache After Intentional or Unintentional Dural Punctures: Time to Think About Risk Reduction and Acknowledge the Burden of Sequelae
( Reg Anesth Pain Med. 2024;49:1–3. doi:10.1136/rapm-2023-104945) Postdural puncture headache (PDPH) is a complication arising from either intentional or accidental dural puncture (DP) during neuraxial procedures. The annual global incidence of DP is unknown, but they impact a wide range of individuals undergoing diagnostic, therapeutic, or analgesic procedures. Many patients experience PDPH, and increasingly, more serious long-term consequences are being reported. Despite this, the global health burden of PDPH remains under described.
