Cardiogenic Shock in Pregnancy
( BJOG. 2024; 131:127–139. doi: 10.1111/1471-0528.17645) Overall, maternal morbidity in developed countries has decreased in recent years; however, data suggests this is mainly due to improved management of conditions, such as preeclampsia (PEC) and postpartum hemorrhage. However, other conditions related to pregnancy, such as cardiac disease, continue to contribute to maternal morbidity. Cardiac death is the leading cause of maternal death in the UK, and the majority of these deaths are due to acquired cardiac disease, not congenital defects.
