Red Blood Cell Transfusion Practices: College of American Pathologists Q-Probes Studies of Red Blood Cell Utilization and Single and Double Red Blood Cell Unit Transfusions
Transfusion practice improvement programs to decrease RBC transfusions include the use of single-unit transfusions and lower institutional pretransfusion Hgb thresholds. Opportunities to lower transfusion thresholds and increase single-unit transfusions exist in surgical and obstetrics services.
