A2L: User-Transparent Workload-Adaptive Asynchronous I/O Layer (industry track)
As the performance of distributed systems improves, workloads exhibit increasingly diverse characteristics across many server applications. The introduction of io_uring has replaced the native Linux asynchronous IO interface utilized by the applications, further increasing overall performance. However, despite its widespread adoption, the varying characteristics of io_uring's supported modes based on IO patterns make it impractical for users to manually switch modes to accommodate real-world workloads. This results in degraded performance and inefficient use of hardware resources and power.
