FACTORS INFLUENCING DOLUTEGRAVIR BASED ART INDUCED HYPERGLYCEMIA, HOSPITAL BASED PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

Background : The dolutegravir (DTG) is an INSTI and indicated by World Health Organization (WHO) to be incorporated into ART regimens, due to its improved viral suppression and pharmacological efficacy. Several case reports suggest that DTG-combined antiviral regimens, increase the risk of hyperglycemia. This study aims at comparing random blood sugars of patients on DTG based ART with respect to age , gender and other drugs in the regimen. Methods : This study was conducted among 110 patients living with HIV, who are non-diabetic and newly initiated with DTG based ART over a period of 6 months from Feb 2023 to July 2023. Baseline RBS is done while initiating DTG based ART later RBS levels are monitored at 3 months and 6 months. Data was entered in Microsoft excel.GLM-RM ANOVA test was performed. Mean standard deviation and P- value were calculated by using SPSS version 23.0,P – value of <0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: P values for hyperglycemia in patients on DTG based ART with respect to age, gender, ART regimen were 0.20 , 0.839 , 0.992 respectively. Conclusion: There was no significant association between increased blood glucose for patients on DTG based ART with respect to age, gender,ART regimen. Therefore this study concludes,DTG induces hyperglycemia irrespective of age, gender or ART regimen.
