ADMISSION BLOOD GLUCOSE LEVELS AS PROGNOSTIC FACTOR OF MORTALITY IN ACUTE ALUMINUM PHOSPHIDE POISONING
Aluminium phosphide (AlP) is a widely used fumigant that releases toxic phosphine gas, leading to severe poisoning symptoms. This study examines admission blood glucose levels as a prognostic indicator for mortality in acute AlP poisoning cases. This cross-sectional study, conducted at Victoria Hospital, Bangalore, analyzed clinical profiles, treatment outcomes, and prognostic factors in 51 cases of aluminium phosphide poisoning from August 2022 to January 2024. Data were collected through clinical investigations and analyzed using SPSS to assess key parameters, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. The study found no significant difference in blood sugar levels between survivors and non-survivors of aluminium phosphide poisoning. However, significant differences were observed in the number of AlP tablets ingested, hospital stay duration, and ICU stay days between the two groups (p < 0.05).
