The Zingiberaceae family at Muong La Nature Reserve, in Son La provincewas researched and sampled from 2022 to 2023, resulting in identifying 30 speciesbelonging to 8 genera. Alpinia was the richest genus (10 species), then followed byCurcuma (5 species), Wurfbainia and Zingiber (4 species). Their habitat livedmainly under the secondary forests with 23 species, scrub with 12 species, gardenswith 18 species, primary forest with 10 species and along streams with 8 species. Inaddition to the value for essential oils, the plants also have other uses such as: 27species as medicinal plants, 8 species for food, 3 species for ornamental and 2species for making wine yeast. There were 6 plant species with use value UV≥ 0.90 inthe total of 30 investigated species. Geographic factors for the Zingiberaceae in thestudy area included: Asia tropical element (66.7%), endemic of Vietnam and subendemic element (16.7%), northern temperate and intertropical element (6.7%),paleotropic element (3.3%).
