DIAGNOSTIC YIELD OF CT GUIDED VERTEBRAL BODY BIOPSY:A RETROSPECTIVE SINGLE CENTRE STUDY
Spinal biopsy is commonly indicated for a variety of reasons, including the histological characterization of a focal vertebral lesion, analyses of receptors and antibodies, characterization of known and suspected spinal metastases, diagnosis of a suspected case of spondylodiscitis, histopathology and microbiological testing, and diagnosis of atraumatic vertebral fractures of unknown origin with differentiation between osteoporotic, neoplastic, and inflammatory fractures. The aim of this study was to determine the diagnostic yield of CT-guided biopsy in individuals suspected of having vertebral lesions. This was a retrospective study conducted in Department of Radio-diagnosis, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai on120 patients with a suspected vertebral body lesion who underwent CT guided biopsy. The results of the present study showed that in 90% of cases, a diagnosis has been made possible by CT-guided vertebral body biopsy. The primary determining factor of the procedure's outcome was the needle gauge. The needle gauge that was frequently used was the 13G Murphys. There was no statistically significant difference observed between the type of lesion biopsied and the method employed.
