Investigation of Accessibility Decisions for the New Adana Stadium

Urban planning is responsible for producing the most accurate spatial development decisions by analyzing the social and spatial values specific to the city. This responsibility can make the city and society resilient, while the decisions themselves can create a resistance problem. Accessibility is one of the fundamental building blocks of resilient cities. Urban planning, addressing accessibility strategies, is one of the most important elements for the construction of sustainable and resilient cities. Accessibility problems negatively affect the city in terms of resilience. In this context, the practice of demolishing old stadiums and building new stadiums in their current locations or in different areas, which has been implemented in many cities in Turkey in recent years, has been addressed. Adana is among these cities. The 5 Ocak Stadium was demolished, and the New Adana Stadium was built in another location. The demolished area was designed as a Millet Garden, and the stadium structure was rebuilt in Elif Su Uludağ Street, Çarkıpare Neighborhood, Sarıçam district of Adana province. Within the scope of the study, the planning decisions taken depending on the location selection criteria of the New Adana Stadium and the design problems experienced in its immediate vicinity were examined within the scope of accessibility. In the study, the stadium's accessibility was analyzed for both active and passive transportation types. In this context, sidewalks, sidewalk ramps, floor covering materials, design decisions taken for the disabled, stops, bicycle paths, stadium parking lots, sidewalk parking lots, pedestrian crossings, and city facilities were discussed. As a result of the study, it was determined that the problem points experienced around the stadium were primarily due to location selection decisions. Therefore, it was seen that accessibility decisions should be questioned again. For this purpose, solution suggestions were presented for the problem areas experienced around the stadium.
