Selection of a virulent Beauveria bassiana propagule, resistant to thermal stress and UV-ab radiation
Beauveria bassiana produces blastospores as propagules in liquid medium and conidia on solid substrate; its virulence was evaluated on Galleria mellonella larvae. The conidia cultured on ground rice that caused a 97% mortality were subjected to thermal stress and of UV-ab radiation, having as response their viability, measured as germination. After 15 h, conidia germinated 90% when subjected at 50°C for 80 min; and after 9 h, conidia germinated 87% when were subjected at 15000 mW/m2 radiation for 240 min. These results allow selecting the conidia as the propagules to be used in the formulation of a bioinsecticide product, as well as estimating their potential when applied in field, without additives to protect them.
