CHARACTERIZATION OF BIOCHAR OBTAINED FROM MANURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL RISK ASSESSMENT
Animal manure has been used to manage soil fertility since the dawn of agriculture. Applying of this residual organic matter on agricultural soils can cause heavy metals accumulation, migration of pathogens to water sources, and food and generation of greenhouse gases. Biochar obtained through thermochemical conversion shows potential in agronomic uses. This study investigated the chemical composition and environmental risk of heavy metals in cattle manure and their biochar developed in the thermal range 700°C-850°C.
