EMPATHY AND GRIT IN NEWLYWEDS: A CORRELATIONAL STUDY
Newly married individuals encounter a specic set of challenges and adaptations as they adjust to married life. This study aims to assess the relationship between empathy and grit among newly married individuals. This study utilized the ex-post facto research design. Using convenience sampling, 110 participants (45 male and 65 female) who had been married for 0-3 years and residing in Chennai were selected. The Short Grit Scale (Duckworth and Quinn, 2009) and the Toronto Empathy Questionnaire (Spreng et al., 2009) were used to collect the data. The results revealed that empathy was signicantly and positively related to grit (r = .268 p < .001). This nding suggests that increased empathy was associated with increased grit among newly married individuals.
