Thermophysical Properties of Mixtures of Tin(II) 2-Ethylhexanoate and p-Xylene

Mixtures of tin(II) 2-ethylhexanoate (SnEHA) and p-xylene are used as precursor solutions in the spray flame synthesis of nanoparticles, usually for the production of materials for gas sensors. Thermophysical property data of these precursor solutions influence the product quality, but are not available in the literature. For this reason, the thermophysical properties of mixtures of SnEHA and p-xylene were investigated at atmospheric pressure and temperatures between 293.15 and 353.15 K over the entire composition range. The density, the viscosity, the thermal conductivity, and the isobaric heat capacity were studied as well as the self-diffusion coefficients of both components. The density and the viscosity were measured with a combined U-tube densimeter and Stabinger viscosimeter. The thermal conductivity and the isobaric heat capacity were obtained with an instrument that uses the hot-wire method. Self-diffusion coefficients of both components were measured using a gradient-based nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. Empirical correlations, such as Redlich–Kister-type polynomials for excess properties and a Jouyban–Acree correlation for the mixture viscosities, are provided for all investigated properties.
