The concept of mental health of the individual in the works of Ukrainian and foreign scientists

Introduction. The concept of mental health is widely represented in scientific discourse and there are different approaches to understanding it. According the most popular approach, mental health is primarily a general characteristic of the psycho-emotional state of large social groups or the entire society. Aim: to determine the main directions in the scientific discourse regarding the concept of mental health based on the analysis of the relevant scientific publications. Methods: analysis of the available scientific literature, formalization, abstraction, comparison, and analogy of data. Results. The analysis of the available relevant scientific literature in Ukrainian and English revealed a need for generalization of empirical data about current transformations and social processes in Ukraine. Conclusions. Ukrainian researchers consider mental health of an individual as a systemic concept to define and characterize the mental and psycho-emotional state of a person (or a social group). At the same time, this concept is not directly linked to a specific mental illness or personality disorder. The fact that in modern studies the concept of mental health is not tied to specific problems and destructive trends in society should also be considered a disadvantage.
