Changes in Vertical Distribution of Environmental and Transpiration Factors of Leaves during Cultivation Period of Paprika Plant in Venlo-type Greenhouse

This study was conducted to investigate the vertical distribution of major environmental and transpiration factors such as intensity of solar radiation (SR), leaf temperature (LT), transpiration rate (TR), vapor pressure deficit, and stomatal conductance near the leaves of plants during cultivation period in paprika greenhouse and the changes in their distribution with growth. All leaves of the plants, including lateral leaves, were measured at 7-10 day intervals.During the cultivation period, SR near the leaves (SRNL) and LT were significantly lower in the middle (60%) and lower (20%) than in the upper (20%) of the plants, regardless of canopy size (number of leaves). In particular, the decrease in SRNL was greater than that in LT and showed a higher correlation with all transpiration factors. However, there were many changes (peaks) in the vertical distribution of the measured values of each leaf.During the growth period (20-120 leaves per stem), both SRNL and TR showed negative linear regression within 40 leaves and negative exponential function over 50 leaves, and the correlation between the two factors was very high.LT showed a negative linear regression model throughout all periods. Therefore, TR per leaf was much more affected by SRNL than by LT, and this trend continued during cultivation period.Based on these results, it is judged that in future studies, the vertical distribution model of SR in plants should be developed and applied separately for the early and middle-late growth stages.
