The Impact of Boron Carbide on High Explosive Detonations
The Carbonara experimental series is designed to provide radiographic data to inform physics modeling of boron carbide (B 4 C) subjected to a high explosive (HE) detonation. In the three initial shots, the shape of the burn front at late times exhibited low curvature near the B 4 C-HE interfaces.Postshot simulations and experimental data suggest that the faster-than-detonation sound speed of B 4 C transported energy ahead of the detonation front, motivating future experiments to further understand this B 4 C-HE interaction.
