Incidental diagnosis of subcutaneous filariasis with an unusual presentation in a non-endemic area—Need to worry?
We report an interesting case of Bancroftian filariasis diagnosed on fine needle aspiration cytology in a young female hailing from a non-endemic hilly area of India, who presented with a subcutaneous swelling on the left forearm. This is an unusual extra-lymphatic site to harbor filarial infestation and the cytology smears showed adult worms, eggs, and microfilariae of Wuchereria bancrofti.
