Mortality in patients older than 65 years undergoing surgery for degenerative lumbar spine disease: a comparison with the general population
Compared with the general population, patients over 65 years old who underwent spinal surgery for degenerative disease of the lumbar spine experienced a reduction in mortality. This effect was particularly significant in women and patients aged 65-84 years. Age, male gender, and Charlson comorbidity index score were associated with higher mortality risk.
