TRANSLATION OPERATIONS OF RENDERING RELIGIOUS REALIA IN HUNGARIAN TRANSLATIONS OF DOSTOEVSKY’S CRIME AND PUNISHMENT
This article considers the strategies for rendering the realia into the target language in translation. In translation theory, realia are phrases and expressions that are closely linked to a particular national culture and have no equivalent in the target language. In this paper, I examine the translation operations used to render religious realia in three Hungarian translations of Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. After the review of the possible interpretations of the concept realia, I present the source works used for the analysis, and the translators as well. In another chapter, I describe the translation operations used to render religious realia. As a result of the study, it can be concluded that domestication is the typical strategy of translation realia in the three Hungarian translations.
