Research on Piezoelectric Acoustically Excited Miniaturized Antennas for Low-Frequency Transmitting With Experimental Validation
Piezoelectric acoustically excited antenna (PAEA) based on the efficient oscillation of electric dipoles has recently been considered as a potential solution for portable low-frequency (LF, 30–300 kHz) transmitting. However, improper material selection will restrict the scope of applications for PAEAs. This article has compared three types of PAEAs’ performance that operate in comparable frequency ranges. The finite element analysis (FEA) uses the Y36° cut lithium niobate (LN) crystal as an example. It has been demonstrated that it fulfills the half-wavelength resonance and that, compared to the miniaturized electrically actuated antenna operating in the same frequency range, its size is four orders of magnitude smaller. Following processing, the three antennas’ measured findings reveal that LN in the experiment has the best efficiency, while lead zirconate titanate (PZT) has the widest −3-dB bandwidth, and potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KDP) has the greatest frequency stability, allowing PAEA to select materials based on different demand scenarios. The results are believed to bring PAEAs closer to applicability in LF transmitting.
