Detection of human papillomavirus in tissue of inverted nasal papilloma
The purpose of the study was to identify signs of the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) and Epstain-Barr virus in inverted papilloma (IP) tissues. HPV DNA was detected by PCR using the MY09 ‑MY11 degenerate primer system. Papillomavirus (common) DNA sequences were detected in all patients with nasal IP. In 8 out of 11 patients with inverted nasal papilloma, oncogenic viruses of types 18, 31 and 33 were detected; in 2 patients, the type specificity of HPV could not be determined, which means that these viruses do not belong to types 6, 11, 16, 18, 31 and 33. In 2 patients with signs of malignant transformation a virological study In 2 patients with signs of malignant transformation the Epstain-Barr virus was revealed and in one of them in association with Papillomavirus (common). The detection of viral infection in biomaterial from IP suggests the possibility of HPV participation in the morphogenetic restructuring of the epithelium, leading to the formation of a tumor.
