Digital System for High Power Synchronous Motor Excitation Control
The use of synchronous motors in variable speed drives for the simultaneous generation of mechanical power and reactive power is one of the most advantageous methods of improving the power factor in electrical distribution networks. The use of automatic excitation control has extended the application of synchronous motors to high load shock drives. The digital control and regulation systems developed to control the excitation of synchronous motors are modern solutions that restore the relevance of synchronous machines. This paper presents a fully digital solution for the design of equipment to supply excitation and control the operation of high power synchronous motors, which can be easily parameterized for low and medium voltage synchronous motor drives of various rated powers, with asynchronous starting capability.
