Regeneration of Waste Oils in Electrical Equipment in Accordance with EU Regulations

This paper presents the first phase of the project initiated by the authors to find an optimal solution for the regeneration of waste oils from electrical equipment, bringing their parameters into line with those of type B oils as defined in the lEC 60296:2020 standard. In this first stage, two paraffin- based mineral oils without additives, with different degrees of degradation/aging, collected from electrical equipment with an age in service of approximately 38 years, and three adsorbents were used to determine the ability of each to improve the physical and chemical properties of waste oils. The experiments showed that all the adsorbents used significantly reduced the moisture concentration and eliminated a significant part of the oil acid degradation products (polar elements), thus significantly improving the properties of the oil subjected to the treatment process.
