Metaphorical models of the SHAME concept based on the speech genre of online confession
The study aims to identify the specifics of the implementation of metaphorical models of the SHAME concept in the speech genre of online confession. The article develops and describes a linguocognitive model of the metaphor of the SHAME concept at the cognitive, verbal, and pragmatic levels. The study is novel in that it is the first one to determine metaphorical models of the SHAME concept in the colloquial written speech genre of online confession. As a result of the study, 5 types of shame metaphors were identified: natural, perceptual, artefact, spatial, and anthropomorphic, as well as 15 metaphorical images belonging to them. It was determined that the natural metaphor is the most common type of metaphors, while “fire” is the most frequently used image of the SHAME concept. It was demonstrated that the specificity of the discourse implementation of metaphorization of the SHAME concept lies in the emphasis on physiological manifestations, the preference for using verbs, and the performance of an emotional-evaluative function. Through the analysis of metaphors, cognitive features of the concept were identified: intensity, negative character of the shame emotion, connection with other mental states.
