Powering a UAV System Using Photovoltaic Technology

This study investigates the design and deployment of an energy management system (EMS) for a UA V powered by a combination of photovoltaic cells, a fuel cell, and a lithium-polymer battery. The EMS aims to efficiently manage energy generation, transmission, and consumption to maintain a consistent electrical current, crucial for the UA V’ s consistent operation. It incorporates a control program that utilizes a algorithm to optimize energy use under varying flight conditions, thereby improving the UA V's autonomy and dependability. The EMS has been tested both in the lab and during flights, effectively handling different energy sources and adapting to changes in solar energy, ensuring a steady power supply. The results underscore the significant role of the photovoltaic cells in the UA V’ s energy strategy, facilitating prolonged flights and lessening reliance on batteries. This research highlights the advantages of integrating renewable energy into UA V systems and offers valuable perspectives on expanding their operational range for diverse uses.
