STROMAL CD10 EXPRESSION IN BREAST CARCINOMA AND ITS CORRELATION WITH KNOWN PROGNOSTIC MARKERS
Background – The incidence of breast carcinoma is on rise and currently it is most common cancer in many countries. A CD10 enzyme, which is present on cell membrane is now found to be benecial in many malignancies. This research will compare CD10 with established prognostic markers in order to determine utility of CD10 in breast cancer. The study aimed to investigate the s Aim - tromal expression of CD10 in breast carcinoma and compare it with known prognostic markers like ER, PR, HER2neu, histologic group grade, molecular subtypes, T stage of TNM staging and lymph node status wherever possible. All the breast carcinoma specimens comprising of mo Methods – died radical mastectomy (MRM), lumpectomy and trucut biopsy received from 2020 to 2023 in pathology department of tertiary care hospital and attached medical college were included in study. H&E staining was done followed by IHC. All details like age, histologic group grade, ER, PR, HER2neu, molecular subtypes, T stage of TNM, lymph node status (wherever possible) and CD10 were collected and noted in Excel for further analysis. Results – Maximum cases consisted of Inltrating Duct Carcinoma, NOS. There was statistically signicant correlation of CD10 with molecular subtypes as more percentage of CD10 positive cases were present in Basal and HER2neu enriched subtypes. While more percentage of CD10 negative cases were present in Luminal A subtypes. However no statistically signicant correlation was obtained comparing CD10 expression with individual ER, PR and HER2neu and also with group grade, T stage of TNM and lymph node status. It is noteworthy that when CD10 stromal reactivity was strong, the tumors were either histologic group grade III, T4 stage of TNM and lymph nodes with metastasis. Conclusion – The association between CD10 positivity and molecular subtypes was statistically signicant. Although it was seen that CD10 positive cases were more in poor prognostic cases like group grade III, lymph node metastasis positive case and T3/T4 cases of TNM, but statistically signicant P value wasn't obtained. Many of available studies including the present study regarding CD10 status in breast carcinoma are done on relatively small sample size. A large sample size is necessary to determine the efcacy of CD10 as prognostic marker in breast cancer. CD10 may prove to be a reliable prognostic marker in the future.
