Measurement of gene expression of FAS and FASL genes and thyroid hormones in patients with thyroid dysfunction in Anbar Governorate

Thyroid hormones are known for their ability to control metabolism, growth and many other body functions. The aim of the study was to measure the gene expression of fas and fasl genes and thyroid hormones in patients with thyroiditis. Samples were collected from Ramadi Teaching Hospital and their ages ranged between 18-75 RNA was extracted from serum to measure gene expression using real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). The results of gene expression between FAS and FASL genes showed statistically significant differences at a probability level (P ≤ 0.05) with a decrease in FAS gene expression level by 0.350 in the patient group and an increase in FAS gene expression level by 28.07 in the patient group. while the results of hormone analysis showed statistically significant differences at the probability level (P ≤ 0.05). The results also showed that there were significant differences between the ages of patients compared to healthy people at a probability level, with high TSH and low T4, T3 in the serum of hypothyroid patients and high T4,T3 and low TSH in the serum of hyperthyroid patients, as well as significant differences between the ages of patients compared to healthy people (P ≤ 0.05). The increase in FASL gene expression in thyroid patients coincided with a decrease in FAS gene expression in thyroid patients and the study showed that FAS and FASL gene expression levels are closely correlated with thyroid hormones.

Abstract

The increase in FASL gene expression in thyroid patients coincided with a decrease in FAS gene expression in thyroid patients and the study showed that FAS and FASL gene expression levels are closely correlated with thyroid hormones.
