The high variable region II variation in Depression Disorders Patients: A Molecular Pilot Study
A depressive disorder (DD) is the most common health problems affecting on quality of life. The current study suggested to detect molecular variation in HVII of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that can be a genetic marker. A pilot molecular study was suggested to detect molecular variations in HVII of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) that can be a genetic marker using PCR-sequencing. The results showed that females were more than males, the DD was higher in lower academic achievements and 95% cases have a family history of DD. The mutation percentage was low in DD and control group 1.158 and 1.29% respectively in non-significant changes (p 0.87), Significant differences (p 0.05) were observed in mutation types, substitution mutation was higher in DD (78.78%). Deletion mutation was higher in control group (47.05%). The mutation types included C>G, T>C, T>G, G>A, A>C, A>G, C>T, C>A, insertion C and deletion mutation in significant differences (p 0.05), C>G was higher in DD (26.92%) than control, T>C was higher in control than DD group. G>A, A>G and T>G were not observe in control and A>C was not observed in DD group. The present study concluded that the variant in HV II did not associate with depression in the current study, but the substitution mutation was significantly related to depression in these low variation that recorded in DD patients.
