A peleja da canção popular com João Cabral de Melo Neto
The article aims to analyze the dialogue between song and poetry in the country based on the work of João Cabral de Melo Neto. Despite not having a “musical ear” and, much less, being a great admirer of Brazilian music, several generations of composers and performers (aligned with different musical genres such as the socalled “MPB”, regional rhythms, samba, rock, RAP, among others) revered the poet from Pernambuco, promoting a possible rapprochement between words written and sung in Brazil. In this sense, the popular songbook constructed its own and original ways of reading and interpretation, appropriating poems, revering books, paying tribute to the author. The result of this struggle between poetic narrative and sound language is the reintegration of old ties between the two artistic manifestations.
