Férias no Sul (1967) e a reinvenção da Blumenau germânica: construindo a imagem da cidade através do cinema
This article presents an analysis of Férias no Sul (1967), long-feature film directed by Mato Grosso filmmaker Reynaldo Paes de Barros. Classified as drama and romance, its greatest peculiarity is its unusual location in Brazilian cinema: Blumenau, in Santa Catarina state, nationally known as a city culturally marked by German immigration. Being a film that had a certain circulation in Brazil, and was quite controversial in Blumenau, it ended up, however, being forgotten within Brazilian cinematography. Two objectives are here sought: firstly, to understand the historical trajectory of the film, through the investigation of its production and reception contexts. To this end, news published at the time in the printed media were used as sources. Furthermore, we seek to analyze how Blumenau and its culture were portrayed, bringing the film itself, with its aesthetic and narrative elements, as the main historical document. This analysis is proposed, defending the hypothesis that Férias no Sul would have contributed to the subsequent project of revaluing Germanic culture in the city, transformed into a tourist product and spectacle from the 1970s onwards.
