Les conspirations d’un romancier historique : Dumas, les sociétés secrètes et la Révolution
It would be very reductive to consider the revolutionary secret societies represented by Dumas as a simple historic seasoning. In his historical novels, in particular the cycle of Mémoires d’un médecin, the Illuminati are a dramatic engine of the narrative, which they structure with consistency; but their main mission is to embody the republican principle that imbues history, until dark times, and to support Providence in its great conspiracy of progress.
