When Everything Gets Mixed up and Tangled: Rouletabille in Russia or the Reporter Facing the Conspiracy
In 1913, Gaston Leroux, a former journalist, published Rouletabille chez le tsar as a serial, the third of eight wise books. By highlighting the stereotypes and intersections characterizing the representations of conspiracy that inform it, the novel also invites us to consider two essential aspects for anyone interested in journalism: on the one hand, the intertextuality between Leroux’s work as a reporter and that of the novelist he became, and on the other, a central reflection on the relationship between reason and emotion in journalistic work.
