Experimental Analysis of Recycled Asphalt Pavement Combined with Crushed Glass, Cevallos-Mocha Road, Tungurahua, Ecuador
The design of hot mix asphalt mixtures using recycled materials such as glass and asphalt pavement (RAP) represents a significant environmental contribution and constitutes an innovation in sustainable road construction. Objective: To analyze the behavior of hot asphalt mixtures in the face of the partial substitution of different percentages of crushed glass and recycled asphalt pavement (RAP) in the structure of the asphalt mixture as a reinforcement element for use in the design of sustainable roads. Methodology: The research was divided into three phases. In the first phase, bibliographic information from studies carried out in the study route and on the incorporation of recycled materials such as glass and recycled asphalt pavement in hot bituminous mixtures was analyzed. In the second phase, alternatives for the design of hot asphalt mixtures were formulated, partially replacing crushed glass and recycled asphalt pavement in its structure. In the final phase, the master formula of the asphalt mixture was established that met all the Marshall criteria and additionally incorporated crushed glass and recycled asphalt pavement in its structure. General Area of Study: Civil Engineering. Specific area of study: Pavement Engineering.
